Have you seen Internet Explorer’s “Child of the 90s” video that has gone viral? It was published a few days ago and it’s obviously resonating with people. It currently has 8 million+ views. Basically the video reminisces on a few of the 90s fads and trends. It ends with “You grew up. So did we.”
The video showed so many great toys from the 90s, that we decided we just had to do a little reminiscing ourselves today. Check out the video and the toys mentioned below. Tamagotchi anyone?
The Toys of Internet Explorer’s ‘Child of the 90s’ Viral Video
1. The yo-yo
Ahhhh, the yo yo. Just a simple string attached to a simple circular toy. Mastering tricks like the “sleeper” and “walk the dog” could help you amaze your friends. When the yo yo first came out in the 1920s, it was called a toy that wouldn’t last. Fast forward to the 20th century when it was named the “Craze of the Century”. The yo yo isn’t going anywhere y’all.
2. Lisa Frank Folders
Now this isn’t a toy, but a product that was found in school desks of girls all over the United States. We’re talking Lisa Frank folders. Actually, Lisa Frank everything – folders, pencils, stickers and pencil cases. The folders were decorated with bright colors and real animals such as unicorns. Yes, I said unicorns are REAL.
3. Tamagotchi
The only thing buzzing in your pocket in the 1990s? A pet. A pet Tamagotchi that is! And yes, they’re still around. Check out Bandai’s TamaTown website.
4. Good Luck Trolls
Trolls have a whole new meaning now don’t they? A troll does not bring good luck anymore. They bring headaches. They make the online world sometimes a miserable place to be. I miss the days where a troll was your friend. That gorgeous bright hair sticking straight up. That big ‘ol smile just waiting for you. Those little arms, wide open waiting for a hug. Sigh.
5. Nerf Super Soaker
The pump and shoot water gun. No trigger to press. No fancy scopes to look through. You had to work to squirt someone with a water gun. This was the “water gun of a higher caliber” as this 1991 commercial shows so well.
6. Hungry, Hungry Hippos
The 1990s were the days where you fed wild animals with your friends, on the floor of your living room. Not online. No news feed full of farm animals. Just a good ‘ol game of feeding those hungry hippos.
7. Pogs
Did you have a Pogs collection? Kids did anything to build their collection – even bringing them to school. They were eventually banned from school, just like Silly Bandz were a couple of years ago.
A few other toy fads from the 1990s that were not mentioned in the Internet Explorer Children of the 90s video are: Tickle Me Elmo, Polly Pockets, Koosh Balls and Spirograph. (The Spirograph is making a comeback!)

Never into the pogs too much but LOVED the Lisa Frank and unicorns!!! I still have some Lisa Frank stickers from "back in the day"...lol
