This toy made it into our 2012 Holiday Gift Guide!
I’ll never forget when I first heard about the Skylanders video game. It was a couple of weeks before the 2011 New York Toy Fair (which I didn’t get to attend because of la flu. Horrible, awful, disappointing week for me!) I was hearing about something that would change the way kids played video games. That it was a mix between game play and toys. Was I intrigued? You better believe I was.
The figures and the game were a huge success and now we have all kinds of Skylanders products, from more figures to apparel and other accessories.
Fast forward to 2012 and now we have Skylanders Giants. It’s the newest addition to the Skylanders brand and it too is a hit. We had the chance to test out a Skylanders Giants Starter Pack for the Wii and we’re hooked.
Skylanders Giants Starter Pack
The Starter Pack includes the game, portal of power, 3 Skylanders figures, 1 character collector poster, 3 sticker sheets with secret codes, and 3 trading cards.

Now Kaos is back and with a new threat looming, it’s time to bring them back to join forces with the Skylanders. What We Thought
If your child loves Skylanders, they will love this new addition. It has more characters, new features, they still get to battle Kaos (which is always fun) and now they can do it giant-sized.
This new game will recognize all of your old characters and the progress you’ve already made. Some consumers were given misinformation about whether their new characters would work on the old portal. Ours work and I’ve read many reviews that stated theirs worked as well.
What’s the difference between the old portal and new portal? The old one is wireless, the new one is not.
Bottom line: If you want to save a few bucks, you don’t need to purchase the starter pack (if you already own Skylander’s Spyros Adventures ) and can instead go with the Skylanders Giants Portal Owner Pack

We are continually impressed with what Activision releases when it comes to their Skylanders games and figures. The gameplay is amazing and has so many features to keep your child coming back for more. The figures are an absolute blast to collect. It just doesn’t get much better than that!
