We’re stepping away from the subject of toys for a moment and are tackling organization. One of my favorite subjects in the world.
Back in September, I told you about a challenge I was taking part in for the Brother P Touch Label maker. I mentioned that over the course of a few months I would be testing out the labels for durability and getting my kitchen nice and organized. I’m happy to report, my kitchen looks fabulous!
Before I show off my nicely organized kitchen, let’s look at a couple “Before” pictures shall we? Needless to say, my kitchen needed some serious help.
I know. It’s pretty hideous and I am usually a very organized person. Really! I am! We moved into this house back in April of last year and I feel like it was all rushed. We moved in, got the kids settled in school, then summer was here, I was working crazy hours – and my list of excuses for not getting organized goes on and on. The one room that was really bothering me was the kitchen, because that’s where I personally spend quite a bit of time. So, after receiving my Brother P Touch label maker and being offered a challenge, I dug in.
I tackled the pantry first. I purchased containers for pasta, snacks, flour, sugar and those loose items that just need a home. As you can see in the “After” pictures below, I labeled the containers so everyone in the house knows what the items are and where everything goes.
My spice drawer also needed some serious organization. I purchased little spice bowls at Target and with my label maker in hand, this is the end result.
I absolutely love these containers and have been using them for a couple of months now. Not only do they help make my spice drawer visually appealing, but they are practical to use while I am cooking. They are all clearly labeled, which helps shorten my cooking time. It’s so annoying to dig around a drawer or the pantry for a spice you just know you have.
Next up, the cereal department as I like to call it. We have a lot of kids that stay at our house over the weekends. And, our kids have cereal every morning. I mostly purchase the bagged cereal and it never fails that someone doesn’t close it up all the way. Which results in stale cereal and one time resulted in ants! My solution – these amazing cereal dispensers.
Aren’t they cool?! After I got them all set up, the kids said they felt like they were at a hotel. Love it.
Another bonus with these dispensers, is our youngest can get his own cereal in the morning. He feels independent and mom and dad can keep getting ready for work, making lunches, etc.
You see my little note on the cereal dispenser? It says “Grab a Bowl. Turn the Knob. Enjoy Some Cereal.” I put that on after one of my kids’ friends asked if those were blenders. Too funny!
I’m also just a little quirky and I like to add quirkiness anywhere I can.
My husband and I also have coffee every morning and we often fix coffee and/or tea when we have friends over. So, we needed a coffee station where everything was easy to see and get to. I purchased a gorgeous bamboo tray that not only holds all the coffee supplies nicely on the counter, but it’s also portable for times when we entertain.
I labeled one container tea bags and also labeled the sugar container (the best $5 I’ve spent! I love my sugar container!).
Last but not least, the area under the kitchen sink needed some help. I purchased a large c0ntainer to put all of the cleaning supplies in and a basket for the dog’s supplies such as bones, his leash and a few other items.
Why use labels in the kitchen you may ask? When you have a lot of people in and out of one area in your home, things can get messy. After labeling items (mainly the pantry), things stay where they belong and get put back as well. The labeled containers also help keep foods fresher instead of having to deal with bags and boxes that didn’t get sealed up like they needed to be.
I am loving my new nicely organized kitchen and my labels. After getting this room organized, I was encouraged to start tackling other rooms of my house – with my Brother P Touch Label Maker in hand of course.
Stay tuned for Post #3 on if these labels are durable and can stand up to daily wear and tear.
