Matchbox Smokey The Fire Truck – Holiday Gift Guide 2011

Remember Matchbox Stinky the Garbage Truck that was a hot seller last Holiday season? Well, make room for his friend Smokey the Fire Truck! He’s the new kid in town and he is one very, very fun toy.

Matchbox Smokey the Fire Truck Description

He is a freewheeling friend with a huge cannon that kids can manipulate and shoot!  Smokey lets his friends know when he’s thirsty, prompting kids to load up his cannon with balls that represent water.  Smokey provides hours of open-ended play with his lights and sounds and levers that kids can manipulate!  Smokey even sings and dances!  Kids will be blazing a trail to fun with their newest friend as they help Smokey put out the fire!

Our thoughts on Smokey

Mattel has done a great job at creating a fun toy for young kids. With his moving mouth, blue ‘water’ balls and his different interactive modes – kids will definitely be drawn to Smokey. He says 95 phrases and can sing 4 different songs, so he’s never at a loss of things to say. When not played with for a period of time, Smokey will fall asleep, which helps with battery life. What child remembers to turn a toy off right?

This toy is perfect for kids who love the other Matchbox toys like Stinky the Garbage Truck and Rocky the Robot.

Notes:

  • Opening Smokey is no fun. The packaging is a little bit of a nightmare. My suggestion for if you’re giving this gift to one of your kids for Christmas is to open it up, read the instructions and already know how to use him. Between the overwhelming amount of ties to undo and the instructions that can be a little hard to understand under pressure (meaning a 3 yr old asking every 5 seconds if they can play with it or not), having the toy all good to go will make Christmas morning go much more smoothly!
  • Smokey is a little loud and his voice will most likely start to get on parents’ nerves. In reality though, which talking toy doesn’t eventually get on our nerves? :)
  • Two things to pay attention to – do not miss the little tab that needs to be pulled out to make Smokey open and close easier and there is also a small slip of paper that explains what to do is Smokey starts acting weird.
