ToyXplosion EXclusive: Interview with Jonathan Morgan Heit for “Jake and the Neverland Pirates”

Jake & The Never Land Pirates: Season 1 V.1 arrives on DVD today (September 27th) and in celebration of the release, we have an exclusive interview with actor Jonathan Morgan Heit who voices Cubby.

Jake and the Neverland Pirates is a Disney Junior show, which has done phenomenally well and kids adore the it!

ToyXplosion: Hi Jonathan! Tell me a little about your character Cubby in Jake and the Neverland Pirates.

Jonathan Morgan Heit: Cubby is the youngest of the group, is a bit shy, but is still adventurous and is the holder of the map.

ToyXplosion: How did you get the role for Jake and the Neverland Pirates?

Jonathan: I auditioned several years ago through my agent. They then had me go back and meet the Disney team for a second audition. I got cast and we first recorded a pilot and then I found out a year later that the series was happening and I still had the part.

ToyXplosion: Do you have a favorite episode so far?

Jonathan: My favorite episode is The Emerald Cocunut.

ToyXplosion: I know this isn’t your first experience with doing a voice for a character (we love you in Santa Buddies and the Search for Santa Paws!), but is this your first animated project?

Jonathan: No. My first animated project was for Build-A-Bear Workshop for their Holiday animated DVD Holly & Hal Moose: Our Uplifting Christmas Adventure.

ToyXplosion: How is an animated project different than, let’s say, filming a movie like Bedtime Stories?

Jonathan: Working as an actor on animation is super fun yet very different than live action because you have to communicate everything totally through your voice.

ToyXplosion: It seems like kids love pirates. What do you think it is about pirates that they love so much?

Jonathan: I think kids like to play out pirates because it seems adventurous and imaginative and most boys love to play fight with pretend swords.

ToyXplosion: Do you have any upcoming projects you can tell us about?

Jonathan: I am in an animated feature film called Escape from Planet Earth where I voice Kip Super Nova who is an alien.

ToyXplosion: We are coming up on the Holiday season and there are tons of new toys for 2011. Have you seen any new toys that you’ll be adding to your wish list this year?

Jonathan: I love sports so anything sports related is great for my list. And a boy can never have too many Nerf blasters!
