We recently were invited over to some friends’ house for dinner and I did what I usually do…bring games! Everyone knows they can count on me to bring some new games for us to try out. Would you like to know what games I brought this time? Two new party games from Buffalo Games – Gotcha! and Truth Be Told.
Truth Be Told is the revealing new laugh-out-loud, pretend to know your friends party game. Each round, one of the players in the Host, and plays a question card. The Host writes a truthful answer pork rinds. All other players pretend to be the Host, and write bluff answers which seems like something the Host wrote – pretzels, prunes, sardines. The Host collects and reads all answers aloud, and players try to guess the True Answer to score points. Bluff answers score points too so there are a lot of ways to win, and a lot of hooting, snickering and giggling along the way. This game includes 564 Truth Be Told Questions (141 cards), 8 markers, 8 Fill in the Blank Cards, 8 Paddles, 1 Scoreboard, Instructions.
We loved this game. It was easy to understand and get the hang of and within minutes of opening up the game, we were playing it. The game says it’s for 14 and up, and that seems about right. Although our 12 year old son played it and it was easy for him to understand the rules.
If you’re playing with someone you know well, you’ll have an advantage. My husband and I have been married for 15 years, so it was easy for us to guess what the other might say. I won by the way.
If you need a fun, easy to understand, and quick to play party game, I highly recommend this one. We had a lot of laughs and got to know our friends a little better.
In Gotcha! each player tries to follow the constantly changing rules, while at the same time trying to catch others breaking a rule. For example, a rule card may read, “People wearing jeans must use fingers quotes while speaking.” If any jeans-wearer speaks without using finger quotes, the first player to catch it and hit the buzzer scores! The rule cards have been designed so there are thousands of different possible rule combinations, offering great replayability and making each game different. The more rules that are played, the funnier the games gets – a perfect mix of laugh-out-loud fun and hectic mayhem. Catch your friends before they catch you!
Gotcha! was a little hard for us to understand at first and trying to remember and follow all the rules was a bit frustrating , but I guess that’s the point – to catch someone not following the rules. And the more rules that are put out there, the harder it gets! The rules were slightly confusing, but as we played we seemed to understand them a bit better. I need to pull the game out again and give it another try. It was definitely fun, definitely funny and you have to stay alert during this one or else someone will Getcha!, I mean Gotcha!.
It is recommended for kids ages 14 and up and I agree. I wouldn’t recommend this one for the kids, but it’s a great game for an adult get together. Just remember that someone needs to thoroughly have read the rules first and maybe even have already played it so they can explain it to everyone else.
Buffalo Games gets it right with their games once again. We can continually count on this company to create fun, original games for the whole family.
How long has it been since you’ve had a family game night or got together with your friends and played a board game? If it’s been awhile, gather some friends, have everyone bring their favorite appetizer and get ready for one very fun evening!
