Have you ever dreamed of publishing a book – a graphic novel to be exact? I have a very fun and informative book to tell you about today, which definitely lit a little creative fire under me! It’s called You Can Do a Graphic Novel by Barbara Slate.
This book really interested me because our son Josiah loves to write stories and is a very good self-taught artist. I knew this book would be perfect for him. It’s a sort of guide book, which takes you through the process of creating your own graphic novel.
What do you do when you have the “Creative Block”? The author helps you learn how to deal with that. What about getting ideas? Where are we supposed to get ideas for characters and story lines from? I love Barbara’s advice, which is to eavesdrop! (Come on, you know you do it!) Some of her best stories and characters happened while out and about listening to someone’s conversation. I love that!
If you are looking for an entertaining and easy to follow book for the whole graphic novel process, I definitely recommend You Can Do a Graphic Novel. Make the reality of creating your own graphic novel feel more real and attainable than ever. And if you know a middle school or high school student who loves to write and draw, this is the perfect read for them.
