“The Smurfs” in 3D is heading to a theater near you this weekend, July 29th. The little blue guys (and gal) are landing in New York! I grew up watching the Smurfs. Every single Saturday morning. I looked forward to them then like I look forward to a new pair of shoes now. So, yes, I am definitely excited about this movie! I hope its done as well as it looks in the commercials.
I am also excited to tell you about this new book we had the chance to review. The World of Smurfs: A Celebration of Tiny Blue Proportions by Matt. Murray.
The World of Smurfs is THE perfect companion to the movie. Matt.Murray did one excellent job of taking fans through the creation of the Smurfs. These blue wonders have been around for 30 years. 30 years! And now they’re making a comeback with an all new major motion picture.
Matt.Murray is a Smurfologist. He really is. He starts from the beginning with a struggling cartoon artist named Peyo who came up with the idea to do a cartoon with little blue characters. Peyo’s story is so extremely interesting to read. Matt takes us through his childhood and then later into his professional career.
The book guides you through a journey in Smurfland. From the amazing pictures and illustrations to the bio of each Smurf and at the end, a behind-the-scenes look at The Smurfs in 3D movie. You’re not just getting a book here (or just a free poster, mini comic and stickers!) but a piece of cartoon history. No other book will tell you the story of the Smurfs better than this one.
The World of Smurfs would make a great addition to anyone’s library, especially someone who grew up in the 80′s like we did. I am so excited for the next generation of Smurf fans.
Don’t miss the movie this weekend or this book!
