It’s been going on off and on for years – the idea of a Hot Wheels movie. And with the success of toy based movies like the Cars franchise and Toy Story, you would think a movie based on the oh-so-popular Hot Wheels would do well. But, the movie might not be for the kids. Really?
According to Variety, interest has peaked once again and Legendary Entertainment is in the early stages of negotiations with Mattel. The Hot Wheels movie they have planned will be “edgier pic along the lines of Universal’s box office success ‘Fast Five’.”
Interesting.
The whole Hot Wheels movie ideas stems back to 2003 when Sony tried to develop one. And then there was 2008 when Warner Brothers was developing a movie with Joel Silver at the helm. The project came to a halt when the movie ‘Speed Racer’ hit the box office. Ouch. But no worries. Mattel came out with a ton of Speed Racer toys.
