Traveling with preschoolers can be such a challenge! We traveled so much when our kids were little because of the military. We made 5 moves in about 7 years from Alaska to Georgia and everywhere in between.
Traveling with little ones means getting a little creative. Babies sleep during travel (usually) and older kids stick their iPods in their ears. But with preschoolers, they have so much energy and need a little more entertainment.
By planning multiple stops and being prepared with some snacks and fun travel toys, traveling with your preschooler can go a little smoother. Our kids were never happy to just watch movies for hours on end and who can blame them! Bring along some toys that will make the trip fun, educational and keep their little brains active.
Here are 5 fun travel toys to keep your preschooler happy on the road or in the air:
Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Travel Doodler with Light
This portable, no-mess travel toy has been a huge hit with preschoolers and parents! We love this because it is just the right size for travel and it works even in the dark. I don’t know about your kids, but for some reason while traveling, as soon as the sun set, their energy level sky rocketed. Keep them occupied with some in-the-dark drawing.
LeapFrog Leapster 2 Learning Game System – Green
Electronic toys like this one from Leapfrog have been a lifesaver on the road. It’s easy for those little hands to hold on to and it features two pre-loaded games. Depending on the length of your trip, you might want to invest in a couple more games. The touch screen is so cool for that age and maybe, just maybe they’ll leave mom and dad’s iPhone alone. Nah, probably not!
Blazing Thunder Scribble Mat Set
This is one of my all-time favorite travel toys! It’s educational and so much fun. The set comes with a USA travel scribble mat, scribble tote book and two scribble ex fold books. We had something similar to this when our teenager was a preschooler and she was able to see the states on the map as we drove through them. Talk about a learning experience for her. And yes, Geography is one of her best subjects now.
They also have a Zoo friends edition, which is super cute for your animal lover.
So, what’s up with the name ‘Moody Bear’? You can change bear’s mood by placing 1 of 5 different faces on him. And of course, he comes with different outfits as well. A bear needs to be dressed well right?! The house opens to a bedroom and has all kinds of surprises. Break out Moody bear when you have a moody bear in the car who is so done with traveling.
Wow Alfie’s Animal Adventure – Travel Adventure Sets (4 Piece Set)
For the child who won’t draw, won’t play with electronics, won’t take a nap and is just all around difficult to travel with (yes, we have one of those!), sometimes a little travel car with some characters is exactly what they need. Our 7 yr. old used to be super difficult to travel with. It seemed that nothing kept this kid entertained, until I discovered all he needed was a car and a few little guys. He still likes to take a car with him when we go anywhere. Wow has several different themed sets like the animal adventure one pictured above, as well as Penny’s Pooch n Ride and Motorbike Max.
