Review: Rango Video Game

A couple of weeks ago we went to see Rango in theaters. All three kids loved it and said they would see it again. It definitely appeals to boys the most, in my opinion. For the parents out there, just remember that it is PG. There were a few scary parts for the toddlers who were in the theater, and their parents ended up having to take them out.

Not only did we get to see the movie, but we had the chance to review the Rango video game for the Xbox 360. Insert a kid who loved the movie , a kid who loves video games and you have one very happy 11 year old boy.

What did he think of the game? He loved it, but he also finished it in 2 days. More on that in a minute.

Here’s a brief description of the game: The town of Dirt could use some cleaning up — and it’ll take one tough-scaled reptile to do the job. Rango is the newest sheriff in town, and this pint-sized cowboy has big-time courage under his cap. Patrolling the Wild West atop roadrunners and desert bats, the little lizard is ready for action — and it’s action he’ll encounter when aliens threaten abduction, rogue rodents are let loose and other wacky mishaps ensue. Can the sheriff shoot ‘em up, brawl the bad guys and save the day?

Why kids will love it: The games are fun and definitely keep kids engaged and entertained while they are playing. There is no need to have seen the movie first to really understand it, although it might make the game a little more fun. Kids as young as 6 can have a blast playing the game on the easy level and the older ones can play and be more challenged on the medium level. You can read more about its key features here.

A little bit of warning for those buying the game: As I said above, my son finished the game in 2 days. It was pretty easy for him to get through it  and although he had fun playing it, once you’re done, you’re done. There is no replayability as far as trying to get to the next challenge.

As for the 10+ rating, I heard the word ‘hell’ once, maybe twice in the game. You hear it several times in the Rango movie.

Has your child played Rango the video game? If so, let us know your thoughts!
