Review: New Products from Backyard Safari Teach Exploration Fun

One of the best things about summer for young kids (besides no school!) is getting outside and exploring nature. I don’t know many 5, 6 or 7 year olds that don’t like finding bugs or camping out in the back yard.

We have been fans of products from Backyard Safari since the day we were introduced to them. From some of our favorite products like the Cargo Vest and Bug Vacuum to the Field Tools and Binoculars, our kids have had a lot of fun with them.

We were just recently introduced to their new products for 2011 and we couldn’t be more excited! Although it’s not summer and it’s incredibly cold where we live right now, that didn’t stop our 6 year old from enjoying these new Backyard Safari products. Sure, he’s looking forward to the spring when he can get outside and explore, but for now, he has quite the base camp set up in his room.

Pictured above are some of their new products, as well as some of the products that are currently out. Here’s what his base camp set up includes:

Backyard Safari Base Camp Shelter – Coming Spring 2011 – Whether you are hiking in the woods, camping in your backyard,
or even setting up a fort indoors, every camping enthusiast needs a place to rest. The Base Camp Shelter comes with everything to
set up camp. We love, love, love this tent! It was super easy to set up. It is really well made and our son has received hours and hours of enjoyment out of it. It includes pockets on the side for storing things, as well as hooks to hang things like the lamp, which is included with the tent.

Backyard Safari Camouflage Netting – Coming Spring 2011 – Hide in plain sight come rain or shine with the Camouflage Netting! Now explorers can blend in with the natural environment, make a sun shade, erect a shelter, or create a blind to stay hidden behind while observing nature. This was one of Aaron’s favorite products. To a 6 year old, the idea of being able to hide is the bomb. When he isn’t walking around the house with it covering him where we ‘can’t see him’, he uses it on his tent as you can see in the picture above.

Backyard Safari Reptile Hunter Super Throw Net – Coming Spring 2011 – Catch creatures large and small in the field! Whether
you are trying to wrangle lizards or keep up with frogs, the Reptile Hunter Super Throw Net is the ultimate catch and release tool. It’s sturdy, lightweight and a whopping three feet in diameter! We first let him know that this net was not for trapping his siblings. :) It’s a very well made net and I can see him having some fun with this come spring.

Backyard Safari Butterfly Habitat – Available now – Create your own butterfly experience in the field! This extra large, lightweight habitat is the perfect environment for the delicate flying creatures.  Featuring a breathable mesh and spring frame, the Butterfly Habitat expands a full 16” to create an instant aviary for live butterflies.

The easy-access closure lets you reach in and out without harming, or accidentally releasing, butterflies. I love how easy this is to fold up. There’s also a mail-in coupon you can use to receive live caterpillars and their food.  The habitat will be their safe and comfortable home until they are ready to release into the wild. Since we are moving in a few weeks and it’s super cold outside, we are waiting to order our caterpillars until spring time. For now, it just looks cool set up in the tent.

All of these new products come with a pop-up field guide. The guide is so cool and kids will love it. It contains great information for their expeditions and it’s 3D.

As you can see, there are hours of fun and exploring to be had from all of the Backyard Safari items. Keep a look out for these new products. We will let you know when they are available for purchase. Backyard Safari Outfitters is available now at Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com, and Target.
