I heart chocolate. Who doesn’t? I know all of our kids love chocolate, so when we had the chance to review the Make Your Own Chocolate Kit, we were a tad bit excited.
The Make Your Own Chocolate Kit comes with everything you need to make your own 8 ounces of dark chocolate from scratch. The kit includes organic Costa Rican cocoa butter, cocoa powder, confectioner’s sugar, starter crystals, a temperature indicator, paper candy liners, instructions, and the story of chocolate. You also get two cacao beans to try for yourself.
I grabbed our 7 year old for this project, because he isn’t in the kitchen as much as I would like him to be. He was very excited about making his own chocolate.
Since this requires some heat (we did it in the microwave and it was super easy), adult supervision is required.
First step: Melt the cocoa butter (which smelled SO good):
Second Step: Mix in the confectioner’s sugar and cocoa
Third step: Microwave it again for 10 seconds. Apply the temperature strip and wait for it to get to 94 degrees F, stirring so it cools evenly. Add some vanilla.
Fourth step: Stir in the starter crystals and mix well. Pour into liners.
Fifth step: Let chill in refrigerator for 15 minutes, or until hard.
Sixth step: Eat and enjoy!
We had a lot of fun making our own chocolate and of course eating it. It was delicious! This was a very fun project and would be the perfect kit for a school project or just something to do with the kids. When you mix chocolate with learning…you can’t go wrong.
