It’s part 2 of our Toy Storage Solutions series. We first brought you ideas on how to Organize a Reading Corner. Today it’s all about those building blocks! If you have a child who’s really into LEGOs or any kind of building blocks, you are probably familiar with the whole ‘walking into their room and seeing that the LEGOs have taken over every possible square inch’ scenario. Been there!
How do you keep that block chaos under control? The main components of a Block Building section in your child’s room are storage and a place to build. From my experience as a Professional Organizer, a table never cut it. Kids wanted to get down on the floor and build. It’s easier and just more enjoyable for them.
Mats and Rugs
Here are a few ideas for an area on the floor to build tall towers and cities until their heart’s content.
Two Sided Block Building Mat -Single by Nilo This gives them something to actually build their LEGOs on. It’s nice and big and gives them plenty of room. Buy two and double up their fun! There are also these LEGO Large Building Plates (9286)
.
Blip Toys has several different LEGO Playmat themes that can really help your child get into their imaginative LEGO world. The different themes are: Blip Toys Lego Playmat Construction Theme, Blip Toys Lego Playmat Police Theme
and Blip Toys Lego Playmat Fire & Airport Theme
.
At only $9.99 a piece, not only do these make their room look cool, but it gives them a visual of ‘This is where I play with my LEGOs’.
Storage
Now, I’m a realist and I have boys who love block building and playing with LEGOs, so I know all too well that they won’t always stay or make it into the storage units provided. For some kids, block building is an on-going thing. Maybe they are in the process of building a city and that’s usually something that takes several days, maybe even weeks! Having the mats that we talked about above, at least keeps them in one area of the room, but allows them to keep building day after day.
But what about all the extra LEGOs they have and those times when cleaning up the blocks is a must? Here are some storage ideas.
Lego Toy Storage and Sorter Box – This is an award winning product that is perfect for LEGO enthusiasts. BOX4BLOX eliminates all the hassles of keeping Legos organized in the home and actually makes clean up time fun. BOX4BLOX works like a coin sorter, grading the Legos through a series of different sized grids, so the Lego bricks end up in a tray with similar sized blocks, with all those hard to find tiny bits and pieces ending up in the bottom tray.
Iris Lego Project Case Chest – Rolling Cart with 6 cases and work station top.
LEGO® CITY ZipBin® Toy Box & Playmat – Perfect for testing out new LEGO® creations! When play is done, capture all the bricks inside. Sturdy, strong, stackable and portable.
LEGO® Head ZipBin® Toy Tote & Playmat – The playmat zips back into the tote, capturing the LEGO® Blocks inside. Ideal for portable play.
LEGO ® Storage Tray Unit – This classic and convenient storage unit is just what you need to keep your LEGO brick collection off the floor! Includes a sturdy red wooden frame storage unit and 4 plastic storage trays featuring compartments in different sizes.
A+ Childsupply Storage Cart for Blocks Features two deep shelves, rounded edges and corners for safety and casters to make moving easy.
CITIBLOCS Original Wooden Building Block Set – 500 Piece With Wooden Storage Box – This set from Citiblocs comes with a sturdy wooden box for storage. We are big fans of Citiblocs!
