The Greenzys book and toy line debuted at FAO Schwartz in New York City on Earth Day 2010 and have made their way across the country just in time for the Holidays. The line is eco-friendly! They also have a website you will definitely want to take a look at.
ToyXplosion received the book and the Yew Yew the Panda Plush. We fell in love with the book for its excellent illustrations and heartwarming story and the Panda because it is so soft and cuddly. The line is geared towards kids ages 3 to 9.
The Greenzys book is a heartwarming tale that teaches the concept of environmental conservation, or “green” living. In this introductory story, the Greenzys meet Orinda, the world’s oldest living tree. When they discover she’s in trouble, they agree to help her, but not before they learn the importance of being green. Written by acclaimed children’s writer Danielle Mentzer, The Greenzys is illustrated by the award winning digital artist, Cris De Lara. The book is made in an eco-friendly manner, with FSC/SFI/PEFC certified paper and board with soy based inks. The book is printed in the United States, which also reduces the carbon footprint.
Kids Preferred Greenzys Peat the Penguin Plush: Peat was born in a place that’s snowy white (the Antarctica) it’s amazing that Peat, the penguin, is the greenest of the Greenzys. He recycles reuses and reduces everything. Sometimes, though, Peat’s extreme greenness drives the others crazy. Like the time when he tried to get them to brush their teeth all at once to conserve water. (It was a mess.) For sure, turning green is the best thing that ever happened to Peat. Favorite green activity: Making popsicles. They’re yummy and don’t need any packaging.
Kids Preferred Greenzys Violet the Giraffe Plush: Violet, a giraffe, is the tallest and shyest member of the Greenzys. Although she doesn’t say a whole lot, she’s a bona fide genius and an encyclopedia of facts and figures, which she learned while living in a zoo in New York. The Greenzys look to her for her vast knowledge of everything green. Favorite green activity: Teaching the other Greenzys how to decrease their carbon paw print (in other words, how to treat the earth as gently as possible).
Kids Preferred Greenzys Willow the Elephant Plush: Willow is an elephant from India and a born leader. She’s always first in line when the Greenzys head off on a mission and cheers them on by blowing her trunk like a trumpet. It’s a tough job, though, leading seven young, inexperienced animals, especially when you’re a rookie yourself. But, it’s worth the effort to Willow. She treasures her Earth home and wants to take care of it. Favorite green activity: Collecting rain to water her plants and using her trunk as a waterspout.
Kids Preferred Greenzys Yew Yew the Panda Plush: Yew Yew Panda, a panda bear, comes from China. He’s always last in line when the Greenzys go off on a mission because he’s sure that there’s big trouble just around the corner. Although, Yew Yew is very green at heart, he doesn’t think he’s cut out to be a Greenzy. But, that’s not true. Yew Yew has what it takes; he just needs to stop worrying so much. Favorite green activity: Growing bamboo. It gives off lots of oxygen, prevents erosion AND bamboo shoots are so tasty.
