ToyXplosion’s Interview with Rico Rodriguez, Kmart’s Official ‘Fun Ambassador’

ToyXplosion had the honor of interviewing Modern Family’s Rico Rodriguez, who is Kmart’s official Fun Ambassador. We asked him about one thing: TOYS!

Rico had the chance to play with some of the hottest toys of this Holiday Season and recently unveiled the FAB 15 in Times Square.

ToyXplosion: How did you become the official ‘Fun Ambassador’ for Kmart? What an honor!
Rico: Well, I’m a kid and I love toys! I think Kmart saw the “fun ambassador” role as an easy fit for me, especially since I love shopping at Kmart for all my toys and toys for my family members.

ToyXplosion: You saw some amazing hot holiday toys during your adventures. If you could pick one toy for a girl and one toy for a boy that you think will be flying off the shelves, what would you pick?
Rico: Meeting all those important toy executives was fun, especially since I got to play with all their toys afterwards. It’s really hard to choose which toys will be the most popular because there are so many great toys on the Fab 15 list. It rocks!

I know I love playing with the Nerf Stampede – it’s so fun! I know that a lot of boys my age would really like to get it as a holiday gift. For girls, I know my nieces would love the Barbie Video Girl, I mean, Barbie is always a hit!

ToyXplosion: Are there any toys you saw that you are putting on your Holiday wish list?
Rico: Yeah – plenty! Pretty much the entire Fab 15 list is on my Holiday wish list, but to be honest I really love the Tonka Riccochet R/C….or as I like to call it the Rico- chet! I love that my name is actually IN the name of the coolest remote control car out there.

ToyXplosion: Can you tell me a little bit about Kmart and why you think it’s one of the best places to shop for toys this holiday season?
Rico: Shopping at Kmart is nothing new to me or anyone at my family. It’s been a shopping destination for us for years. I love that the people at Kmart really do care about their customers, for instance this year’s Fab 15 list was designed with kids in mind, because they want to make sure they pick the toys that kids and families are going to be looking for this holiday season. Plus, they even have layaway to help families afford everything for the holidays.

ToyXplosion: I am sure your fans want to know….do you have any other fun projects coming up that you can tell us about?
Rico:I just finished hosting the DVD for the newly released “Legend of the Guardians”.  It was a great experience and I had a lot of fun.

I am working on some great charity projects for my hometown with my sister Raini for the holidays.  We are both so excited to be able to do something fun and nice for all the kids back home.

I am also working with the 1Warm Kid Campaign.  We collect coats and give them to kids who need them so they can be warm when it gets cold outside.
