I have a very cool product to tell you about today. If your kids love to construct and create things, then they are going to love the Aquafier Magnifying Lens Kit. It’s a kit where they get to construct their own magnifying glass out of water.
Here’s a little background about the product:
It’s a product that almost looks too simple to be true. A new product called the Aquafier Magnifying Lens Kit allows the user a unique way to construct a one of a kind magnifying glass by using a few simple things: two large clear plastic fiber optic quality lenses, an oversized custom made rubber band, and simple WATER. There are many magnifying glasses on the market, but the Aquafier is the only “kit” that allows kids & adults to construct their own magnifying lens that assembles in seconds – and in a very simple yet intriguing way.
All we used was our sink, water, the supplies we were sent in the kit and voila! – we have a magnifying glass that my boys are crazy about. Seriously, they keep fighting over it and it’s getting annoying. It is SO cool though!
I gave my boys (10 and 6) the kit and instructions and our 10 year old, with a little help from his brother, was able to construct the magnifying glass by himself. Are you interested to see how it works? Check out this cool video.
To assemble the Aquafier, simply submerge the 3 inch lenses in a sink of water to capture the water inside. Then place the large rubber band around the outside of the lenses to hold them in place. The water in the lenses then works as a high quality magnifier that is near glass quality and creates a near 5x (5 times) magnification.
The Aquafier is made in the U.S. and sells for $9.95 (& S&H) and is available online at: www.myaquafier.com. Guess what my boys want to do for the science fair this coming school year? Yep, they want to order another kit and explain how it works. This is THE perfect item for a science fair project or just a fun at-home learning tool.

Here’s how the company explains how it works:
The Aquafier works because of “refractive index” – a simple scientific principle but one that has never been applied to a consumer product such as this. Not only is the Aquafier fun and functional, it is also a great teaching & learning tool that touches on topics like science, physics and optics. The Aquafier kit is ideal for a unique and hands-on gift idea, or for use as a teaching tool for schools or parents and grandparents to share.
This is sure to be a big hit at the Science Fair. At least that’s one school project we have under our belt!
